The Ugly American

This just in: Romney aide swears at reporters because they dared to ask questions about his current trip. It just gets better and better.

The Koch brothers must be furious this climate expert decided to express the truth instead of their denier propaganda.

Just Another Dog Whistle

Boy, the Romney folks are busy sending out messages that our current president is black, different and unqualified to lead the country. Wonder what they'll be saying about him in October?

You Need More Proof Than This?

Boy, I bet this guy Turzai has been put on a short leash. How wonderful to see a Republican come right out and proudly admit why the state of Pennsylvania has enacted draconian voter ID laws.

Vindicated

Hey, GOP- so you really want to take healthcare access away from millions AND increase the deficit?

We're Still Living in the 18th Century

I'm always amazed when I hear people say the Founding Fathers wouldn't have a problem with people being able to purchase magazines that hold a hundred rounds. Why stop there? I want a shoulder held stinger missile. As far as I'm concerned, they'd be cool with that too.

Madness

I wonder sometimes if there is any amount of carnage that will make the pro-gun lobby stop and consider any small, reasonable changes in our laws. We keep an eye on people who purchase large amounts of fertilizer. We keep an eye on people who photograph bridges. James Holmes purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition...we said no problem, that's perfectly legal, you go right ahead and do what you want with it.

Has anyone else noticed that the GOP's disdain for non-rich folks now seems to include whites? I guess it's just their version of Affirmative Action.

They Can't Hold On To It Forever

The bad news: CEOs who hate Obama are hoarding cash in an effort to remove him from office. The good news: When he gets re-elected, they'll no longer be able to use the "uncertainty" excuse. I predict the economy will get a big boost and the markets will soar.

What's He Hiding?

It's really quite simple, Mitt. Until you produce a few more tax returns, everybody in the country will assume you're hiding something. It's okay to be a rich president but not one with a bunch of financial secrets. http://www.salon.com/2012/07/16/what_romney_fears/

What Comes After

I think the president is going to be re-elected. Romney has never been the strongest candidate and now seems to be increasingly viewed as not only out of touch but possibly corrupt. Having said that, I have to wonder what the Republicans in Washington would do during a second Obama term. Will they continue to block every effort he makes to improve things or will they come to their senses and work with him? Is there a point where even conservative Americans begin to question the sanity of them always saying "no" to everything?

Boxed In

Mitt's whole campaign is built on what he accomplished working in private business. If that's true, he needs to be forthcoming about what really happened during his tenure at Bain and how long that tenure actually was. And he also needs to be honest about why he has secret overseas bank accounts.

Something Republicans Don't Get

So, there's been some talk that Condi Rice is being seriously considered as Mitt's running mate. I'd be surprised, considering she's pro-choice and pro-affirmative action. Plus she'd remind people of the really unpopular Bush administration. So why would she be considered? Because she's black and female and the GOP power brokers think women and black people are stupid and will unthinkingly support her for just those two reasons. Guess they didn't learn much from that amazing Sarah Palin success story...

Paranoid Party

I won't be the least bit surprised when I hear about some paranoid schizophrenic person murdering federal employees in Maine. And we can thank their idiot governor.

Cynical

It's pretty obvious now that Mitt only talked to the NAACP so he could get booed and then go back to his conservative comfort zone and trash black people.

Let Them Eat Emergency Room

This is an awesome quote: "I feel like a broken record, but some truths bear repeating. Only in America could a Democratic president pass Mitt Romney’s health plan and fund it partly through John McCain’s best idea from the last campaign (taxing some employer-provided plans) and be branded a “socialist.”

Heartless Haley

There's just something especially nasty about conservative female politicians who lack sympathy for other women. I don't think Haley would think it was a "distraction" if she was the one being abused or raped.

Toward the Future, Step by Step

I've always been sort of fascinated with the pace of change in society. Legislation matters a great deal but it's the small, incremental stuff that tells you when something is going to stick. Maybe it was the first time you saw a television program that starred a black person. Maybe it was the first time you met somebody who had two moms. Maybe it's like the other day when I was at Lowe's and saw they were getting ready to start selling home auto charging units. The future will not be denied.

The American Ego

The Fourth of July is a conflicted holiday for me these days. When I was a kid I was completely confident this was the greatest country on the planet. Now I'm not so sure...and actually think maybe our national superiority complex has prevented us from making some crucial changes over the years. Like they say, isn't the first step toward solving a problem admitting you have one?

RIP Andy Griffith

Thanks, Andy...you and the rest of the folks in Mayberry were a big part of my childhood. Plus you starred in a fantastic movie called "A Face in the Crowd" that predicted the power of media wingnuts like Glenn Beck.

Apocalypse Now

I believe that future generations will look back at us and shake their heads in wonder...how could we deny the climate was changing and not do something about it?
