Empathy Only For Himself

I think it's weird that some people can be such complete
a-holes about what happens to other people but then
turn into blubbering messes when talking about stuff
in their own lives. Geez, pick a personality already!

Don't Let Ron Paul Fool You

There are a lot of reasonable people out there who don't
have the whole scoop regarding Ron Paul. Here are three
big myths about him that need to be exploded.

My Favorite Films of 2011

Here's a list of the movies I enjoyed the most this past
year. They are in no particular order...

Young Adult- Charlize Theron is outstanding as the
former high school queen who goes back to her hometown
in order to get back with her old boyfriend. Laugh out
loud funny but also makes you think a lot about the
way we see ourselves and how hard the passage of time
can be.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes- this movie was a huge
surprise and pleasure. The acting is good and the
special effects are amazing.

Midnight in Paris- Who'd have thought Woody Allen
would still be making great films this far down the
line? Owen Wilson is utterly charming as a writer
who feels like he was born in the wrong time.

Tower Heist- a great film with a terrible title. It's
funny, clever and right in line with our national
conversation about what the super-rich have been
doing to this country.

Margin Call- an outstanding cast does a great job of
using one fictional company's financial meltdown to
explain what happened to our economy three years ago.

My Week With Marilyn- Michelle Williams absolutely deserves
a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Marilyn
Monroe, Kenneth Branagh is marvelous as Laurence Olivier
and Eddie Redmayne is touching as the young man who
takes care of (and falls under the spell of) the blonde
goddess.

Take Shelter- Michael Shannon rocks the screen as a
man who keeps having apocalyptic visions no one else
believes.

What a Difference a Month Makes

Apparently the public is starting to appreciate the
leadership gap between the president and those who
inhabit the GOP's political clown car. His approval
rating has gone up six points in a little over a month.

Standing Up For Those Who Stand Up For Us

Getting the president re-elected is important. But it
won't matter if the Dems can't take the House back
and keep the Senate.

The Joke's On Us

I find it odd that the Tea Party might back a candidate
who will do his level best to exacerbate the deficit problem.

God (Maybe), Religion (Not So Much)

Whenever I watch presidential debates (especially the GOP
ones) I always feel like there is an awful lot of assuming
being done about voter's religious beliefs.

Newt Gingrich, the Orwellian Candidate

it possible Newt Gingrich is the leading contender for
ANY political office?"

You Gotta a Lot of Nerve, Mitt

I can't believe Romney has the nerve to call President Obama
an appeaser when it comes to foreign enemies.

Romney would never be able to attack Iran (or any other
country) because it's not a decision you can take back
the next day.

Insanity

Do you think the Founding Fathers would be happy with

So Wrong and Not Cool

I HATE THE ROCK 'N ROLL HALL OF FAME. They are blatantly
biased against any kind of progressive rock.

False Compassion

I have to laugh when I see how transparent many of the
GOP's social concerns are. Like Newt Gingrich wanting
to lay off minority janitors who earn middle-class wages
and replace them with children who can make a much
smaller amount and learn the value of having a job.

Trent Franks in Arizona is just as bad. He's desperately
trying to prevent black women from having the right
to abort black children.

What a fighter for civil rights!

The Personal and the Political

Watching Cain and Gingrich on the campaign trail got me
wondering if there's ever a point where it's okay for
an opponent to call you out on something like adulterous
situations that have occurred in your past.

I'm not saying people should be automatically disqualified
because of their personal baggage...but I would hope
that character counts for something in our elections. And
few things are a better indicator of character than how
you treat your spouse and family.

Flip Flop Squared

So, now we're basically down to Mitt and Newt on the
Republican side.

I call this the "You're a hypocrite...No, You're a hypocrite" phase.
